Southeast Kansas Weatherization Program will have New Service Provider

SE Kansas – (RealEstateRama) — After nearly 40 years of providing weatherization services to homes in ten counties in Southeast Kansas; Southeast Kansas Community Action Program Inc (SEK-CAP) has elected to not apply for funding in 2017 to administer the weatherization program.

Through the application process of the weatherization program by Kansas Housing Resources Corporation (KHRC), South Central Kansas Economic Development District, Inc (SCKEDD) has been selected as the new service provider for those ten SE Kansas counties.

Officially the change will take effect January 1, 2017. However, staff at KHRC, SEK-CAP and SCKEDD have begun work to make the transition seamless to ensure that eligible southeast Kansas households continue to receive high-quality weatherization services. Files and applications are in the process of being forwarded to SCKEDD. Individuals in southeast Kansas wishing to apply for weatherization services should now contact SCKEDD at 316-262-7035 or at

Since SEK-CAP began administering the weatherization program in the mid 1970’s over 11,698 homes have been weatherized in the region. An estimated 30,561 people have benefited from this program. The program has expended nearly $25 million to weatherize homes in SE Kansas. KHRC wishes to express extreme gratitude for the many years of service SEK-CAP has provided administering the weatherization program in SE Kansas. SEK-CAP will continue to provide high-quality, comprehensive, early childhood education, housing, transportation, seniors, youth, nutrition, community engagement, economic development, and administrative services.
