Senator Roberts Announces over $500,700 in Grants to Kansas Firefighters

WASHINGTON, DC – March 05, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senator Pat Roberts today announced over $500,700 in eight grants were awarded to Kansas firefighters to improve homeland security.

Senator Roberts said, “I am pleased to announce these funds, which are vital to improve firefighting efforts and first responder needs in rural Kansas. It’s imperative to support our local fire departments.”

Wellsville City Fire Department: $51,852 for Fire Operations and Safety

Allen County Rural Fire District #3 in Elsmore: $35,150 for Fire Operations and Safety

Harvey County Fire District #1 in Walton: $85,500 for Fire Operations and Safety

Chautauqua Rural Fire Department District #8: $21,850 for Fire Operations and Safety

Stafford County Rural Fire District #1 in St. John: $196,330 for Fire Operations and Safety

Jackson County Fire District #2 in Soldier: $20,710 for Fire Operations and Safety

Nemaha County Rural Fire District #4 in Bern: $32,342 for Fire Operations and Safety

Newton Fire/EMS Department: $56,970 for Fire Operations and Safety

The funds were awarded by the 2008 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program under the United States Department of Homeland Security. The program assists rural, urban and suburban fire departments throughout the United States.
