WASHINGTON - U.S. Housing and Urban Development Secretary Steve Preston today announced HUD will speed federal disaster assistance to 46 storm-ravaged counties in Kansas and provide support to homeowners and low-income renters forced from their homes following tornadoes, severe storms and flooding. (Topeka) – Governor Kathleen Sebelius has signed into law Senate Bill 417, a measure creating a $4 million Housing Development Grant Program. The housing program initially targets communities that suffered recent disasters, but later expands eligibility in 2010 to include all rural cities. (more…)

Declining inventories show housing headed in the right direction

After back-to-back down years for both new-home starts and sales, the Kansas City housing market is showing a swing in a positive direction. That was the message from the 2008 Housing Forecast presented Thursday, Jan. 17 by the Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City (HBA). Sebelius sends letter to legislative leaders detailing compromise that was turned down

Earlier today, Governor Kathleen Sebelius delivered a letter to legislative leaders detailing the elements of a compromise offered by her administration to the representatives of Sunflower and Midwest Energy. This compromise, which would provide for the base-load energy needs of Kansas, was rejected by these utilities. (more…)
