NeighborWorks America Training Explores Innovative Strategies to Enhance Organizational Capacity

Topeka, KS – July 20, 2010 – (RealEstateRama) — Good intentions, tenacity and passion are essential qualities non-profits must have to achieve any community building mission, but are they enough? Unfortunately, many organizations realize too late that getting the job done also requires capacity, knowledge and resources.

To help community development organizations better meet objectives and enhance performance, the Kansas Housing Conference is pleased to offer a specialized, full-day training on capacity building presented by NeighborWorks® America. The training, titled “Organizational Capacity Assessment for Community Building,” will take place Tuesday, September 7th from 8am to 4:30pm at the Capitol Plaza Hotel, located at 1717 SW Boulevard in Topeka.

Joan Straussman Brandon, a NeighborWorks® Consultant with over 30 years experience working with community development organizations, says many non-profits do not or can not take the time to gauge their organization’s capacity needed to achieve success.

“This training gives board members and executive directors the rare opportunity to self-reflect and look critically at their organization’s mission, staffing, structure and other resources,” said Straussman. “We’ll help attendees identify strengths and see what’s missing to be effective in community building activities.”

Topics covered include the components of organizational capacity, such as governance and leadership; mission, vision, and strategy; program delivery and impact; resource management; and internal operations and management.

The Organizational Capacity Assessment Training is a pre-conference, workshop leading up to the 2010 Kansas Housing Conference taking place September 8th – 10th in Topeka.
