Application Process for Appliance Rebate Program Now Closed

– Voucher Requests Exceed Funding Available; Applications No Longer
Accepted –

Topeka, KS - January 29, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) — Kansas Housing Resources Corporation (KHRC) has committed approximately $2.7 million in funding for the State Energy Efficient Appliance Replacement Program (SEEARP).   As of today, voucher requests received by KHRC exceed funding available. Because of that, new applications for SEEARP can no longer be accepted.

While applications are currently being processed on a first-come, first-served basis, any application received after 5pm Thursday, January 28th, 2010, will not be accepted.  Applicants who have met this deadline and do not receive a voucher, either due to an incomplete application or a lack of funding, will be notified by mail.

Created by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009, the appliance rebate program provides vouchers ranging from $200 to $800 to help income-eligible consumers purchase ENERGY STAR rated appliances.   The goal of SEEARP is to help low-income households reduce their monthly utility bills by recycling outdated, energy hog appliances with new energy efficient models.

SEEARP is administered within the existing structure of the Weatherization Assistance Program and the Low Income Energy Assistance Program. These programs are funded by the U.S Department of Energy and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, respectively. Both programs serve low-income individuals and families.

KHRC’s mission is to enhance Kansas communities with housing opportunities using a variety of strategies and approaches, including increasing homeownership opportunities, promoting energy efficiency improvements for owner-occupied and rental housing and providing affordable housing through rent assistance to low-income families and senior citizens.
